Matt Hughes: Coolest of All!

We completely adore the athletes and each one of us has our own special heroes in the world of sports. Yet, some athletes are so charismatic that they are liked by everyone and the dashing Matt Hughes is one such amazing sports personality.

One of the greatest champ the octagon has ever witnessed, we know Matthew Allen Hughes much better as Matt Hughes. This balanced Libran was born on October 13, 1973 in Hillsboro town of Illinois. This two-time World Welterweight Champion spent his childhood days playing football and wrestling with his twin brother Mark. Now a family man, Matt lives happily with his wife Audra and two lovely kids.

We have often seen how the top MMA stars get the cringe when Matt steps in the octagon and what then the next few minutes are packed with all the action in the world. The martial arts skills of this professional fighter make him a formidable foe, one of the reasons why he holds such strong position in Welterweight Championship.

One can go on and on talking about his achievements but some of the legendary victories include those over BJ Penn, Royce Gracie, Akhihiro Gono, Georges St. Pierre, Hayoto Sukrai, Carlos Newton, Frank Trigg and Sean Sherk. Matt almost created history by beating Dave Menne in 1998, a far experienced athlete against Matt who was far less trained. Surprisingly, it was just third fight for him! No doubt, he became a superstar overnight!

Matt’s splendid MMA record of 41 wins and mere 6 losses is envied by many of his competitors and his fans will always cherish his fight against Carlos Newton that got him the first UFC Welterweight title. It was not easy to hold his position but this fierce fighter defended his title for years.

Matt is not just popular with his fans, mainstream media has given him great coverage. What’s more, he’s even respected by his contenders and that’s something we don’t see very often. It seems as though Matt’s career graph was just meant to go up steadily. Matt himself has loads of love for his fans and he values them a lot.

Recently, Matt opted out of Miletech Fighting Systems to start his own 'Team Hughes’. Matt has also written his autobiography Made in America: The Most Dominant Champion in UFC History and it is unlikely that you have not read it if you are his fan. May be you are waiting for that next book that he is busy writing.

Sadly though, Matt has been recently talking about waving a good bye to his marvelous fighting career. If that happens, we surely are going to miss that fiery action in the octagon but there’s no way anyone can forget the contributions to MMA made by this super cool athlete.

Soccer: An amazing game!

People have always cherished soccer but it was over the last three decades when this game hit the peak of popularity. With over 3 million soccer players in America alone, Soccer has a promising future.

Gone are the days when Soccer, like Golf was considered to be a game of elite. It is no longer the game that is just played in the private clubs of English aristocrats. The simplicity and low cost has made this England born game reach every corner of the globe. Soccer rules were standardized by The London Football Association and then it hardly took time before myriad soccer players started to appear on the field.

Soccer hit the Olympics in 1900 and the first World Cup International competition was held in 1930. Although there are only 24 teams competing in the world cup for now, there are over 200 that eagerly await admittance!

Right since the time when the rules of soccer were standardized, hardly have there been any changes to it. However, one major rule that underwent change in last century is the offside rule. This rule can declare a player offside, in an unjust position near the opponent’s goal line.

The health benefits of soccer are immense, especially for the kids. The lovely game keeps your kids healthy, improve their morale and you never know, it might also improve their grades in school! Research has proven that if kids get involved with soccer early in their life, they develop a healthy attitude and build strong sense of team spirit.

Although soccer is easy to learn, there are several skills that the players have to master. These include controlling the ball, defending it, passing it, dribbling, tackling and so on.  Great thing about soccer is that just about anyone can enjoy this game. Young and old can both relish the excitement and health benefits of this game!
